Aren\u2019t they technically the same thing?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The answer:\u00a0<em>it depends on where you\u2019re from.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In all of\u00a0<strong>Europe<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; they are indeed the same thing and can be used interchangeably. If you\u2019re applying for a job that asks for a\u00a0<strong>CV<\/strong>, you should know that it\u2019s the same as a\u00a0<strong>resume<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, if you\u2019re from the United States, it\u2019s a bit different.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<strong>resume<\/strong>\u00a0is a one page summary of your\u00a0work experience\u00a0and background to the job you\u2019re applying to.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<strong>CV<\/strong>, meanwhile, is a longer academic diary that includes all your experience, publications and more.<\/p>\n<p>The main difference is that\u00a0a\u00a0<strong>resume<\/strong>\u00a0is about one page (max. two), whereas the\u00a0<strong>CV<\/strong>\u00a0can be longer. A\u00a0<strong>resume<\/strong> is used for job hunting in all industries, and a CV is used for jobs and admissions in\u00a0<strong>academia<\/strong>.
